DESCRIPTION
Strange rumors, mysterious legends, and suspicious corpses...
Hizuki Reiji is, by all accounts, a normal high school Japanese teacher, but he's thrust into the middle of a mystery when he moves to another town for a substitute teaching position. The woman he's replacing disappeared two weeks ago, and rumor has it that the problem child of her class, Magaki Kyoichi, was seen with a blood-stained knife the day before she vanished. The cops are on his trail, but what really happened to Sakuraba-sensei? And how are Hizuki and Magaki involved?

90/100Ooky-spooky, strange, and delightfully sexy.Continue on AniListWhile the story is a bit confusing at points, there's several points of appeal which makes this story worth checking out. As a warning, this story contains a lot of dubious consent or straight-up sexual assault, although I would not say it is done in a realistic way meant to upset the reader, and can often fall into "porn consent" territory.
The Art Kirima Moccori's art is delicious. I absolutely love the way Reiji is drawn both in this and in Nightmare in the Art Room. At work he looks sharp and professional, a real cool megane type, but as soon as it gets down to the sex he is a complete beautiful mess. In particular, I love the way Kirima-sensei draws his eyes and overblown reactions to things. The art also beautifully fuses the erotic and horrific story elements.
The Characters Admittedly, the characters aren't the most impactful or inspiring, but they do the job they're assigned to within the confines of the story. The real appeal of this story is the main character; if you're a sucker for student-teacher relationships in which the student (or student(s) in the case of the extra short stories) are the aggressors, you will definitely like this. Reiji is a fantastic victim, who has fantastic and entertaining reactions to the things that happen to him. He also, despite his over-the-top reactions, takes a lot of these horrible things in stride, without breaking down or taking the tone of the book from "scary and fun and sexy" to "genuinely upsetting".
The Story As stated above, the story can be a bit hard to follow at some points, but I found the fusion of horror, BL, and Japanese mythology to be very refreshing and interesting. However, you might be a bit disappointed by the length of the story. While there are three one-shots included in "Nightmare in the Art Room" which check back in with Reiji and Magaki, none of these elaborate on Reiji's status as the reincarnation of a local god. While mysterious things still happen to him, it's never really confirmed if he's a reincarnation, or where his powers come from. I don't really think this is an issue if you are interested mostly in the character dynamics and the smut, but if you are hoping for concrete answers, you won't find them here. That said, I would never turn down a continuation of this series, and I really do hope Kirima-sensei returns to them one day.
All in all, this isn't a horror story which will have you looking under your bed for monsters, or one that will inspired existential introspection. But it will definitely satisfy the same itch that a slasher film might, and is 100% worth looking at if you're interested in sexy ghost stories!
