Smutty BL with religion, guilt, and MC's desperate need to be seen as human
I initially started this series seeing it as oh "a sliver-tongued power bottom driven by lust transported in another world mistaken as a religious figure" It's comedic, haremy, with a slutty, confident MC. which yes.. love to see it, that's what this series is but going further than that there's a lot of nuances (if u look yk... really closely but yeah it's just hentai plot at the end of the day).

Now.. the elephant in the room - this series has rape. I think if you're dismissing this series as a whole because there are reoccurring rape scenes, I would understand why, but I think this is not the series to do that. It's interesting writing; this rapist genuinely believes what he is doing is worship and the right thing to do (bc of the nature of this conservative world, how MC taught him, and his absolute devotion to god even before MC's descent), which is something I don't see in other series. MC tolerates this because of that, even though he later realizes that he is scared and does not like it. the other reason why he tolerates it is because of his self-image created by past trauma. MC loves sex, so his own mind is playing against him - if he constantly loves and yearns for sex, why does this act of it bother him and internally convince himself that it shouldn't bother him? You can see him keep on referring to his past relationship, in every world he has to do this and put up with it. Trying to justify it in his head, "Oh, he's not that bad..". Even while he's getting ravished, he's justifying it and pitying on Vercion's poor upbringing as a child.

Vercion is very sensitive, delicate, selfish, and jealous. My god, I hate him. I'm not dismissing Vercion because the way he treats MC is not ok, but as writing? It's not bad. Small details on Vercion is how he questions MC, who he views as god himself, "Is he corrupted" and his feelings of doubt, which he dismisses, and how he views nobody as truly "equal."

Vercion is clearly meant to be a foil between the king. Tender vs Rough, Non-believer vs not, both connected because of their relationship towards MC. This is really hammered down in the finale of the first season. MC leads the ritual and has both the knights and priest go hand in hand for the first time in history. The king is moved, even though he's an atheist he's questioning if he really is the chosen one.

Vercion on the other hand is doubting MC. He sees the love in his eyes and refuses to accept it

The king, an atheist, has seen death, disease, and constantly questions, "if god is real why turn his back on the suffering" which is a very heavy and real-life thing to ask. Through MC, he sees that he's lovely as a MAN, a HUMAN.

The king is one of the first people to see past him as "god" and as an actual person. I enjoyed reading the dynamic of the king loving the man behind this religion but hating the whole religion itself; so yummy to read. In a world where everyone else sees MC as a god, the king sees him as who he is, and being the first person to tell him of his non-omnipotence is really special and has weight.

dawg you should read chapter 61, the internal monologue he has SOO TENDER SOO PEAK, i would show it but id take a screenshot a every panel. I saw another review that dislikes that MC is going all in on him and that it's not as haremy as they would like, but brother. If everyone saw you and yearned for you solely because you're a god or a religious being/appearances and shallow surface-level beauty and not for who you are. it's genuinely suffocating.

I love picking the I said- nuances of this series (it's fun because it's a otherwise, a smutty bl). like the subtle developments and seeing and learning that MC is a bit of slut but he's deeper than that, he has the pressure of being this religious figure, and while he is sex-driven, he's empathetic, even towards Vercion, his rapist. "This is an act of devotion" or these words that he's telling himself and you can even see at a point how he wants to separate the religious connotations of sex when he sleeps with the king. "if you see this as an act of worship then I don't want to do it" fucking beautiful.

I love the dialogue and text in this series it's surprisingly very tender at times.
I just reread this chapter (CH75) and man I just realized how much of a build up this moment was and just how pivotal it is. throughout the chapters leading up to this moment, you can see that MC is just so tired of keeping up a mask and tiptoeing around Vercion. This is such an important moment!! MC feels comfortable enough to reveal that he isn't omnipotent and the king replys with "that is all i could ask for" KING. the king is so glad that "not once have you abandoned me" oh my god... andandnand you see MC lean into this tenderness and thinking "this is all i ever wanted" and shit like that fuuuuck....

I'm caught up the quality dropped i feel.. MC's ex being a king of a different nation makes the tone of the series a lot more serious and unsettling. I knew that a threesome scene was going to happen given the nature of this series but It was again, unsettling to read. Even MC acknowledges it when he thinks "this is no holy act this is just filthy" or something along those lines... man i'm just, for the 3rd time, unsettled. I really dont expect anyone to read this but if you somehow did wtf tysm for reading!!
