DESCRIPTION
The "Tasokare Hotel" never sees afternoon, nor does it see night, but rather exists in a state of endless twilight.
This hotel exists in a limbo state, as a place that allows souls who have not yet decided if they are meant to pass on to the afterlife, or remain in the world of the living, to rest their wings. The protagonist, Neko Tsukahara, comes across this "Tasokare Hotel" with no memory of who she is or how she came to be there.
An employee leads the way and shows Neko to her room, explaining, "In these rooms, there should be items that are related to our guests' memories. These items can also serve as clues to help our guests remember who they were before they arrived here." As Neko searches for a way to return to this world and remember who she was, a certain incident confronts her...

81/100a unique anime with strong mystery elements & very intriguing characters, but has pacing issues & a rushed endingContinue on AniListOVERALL RATING: 8.1/10
plot: 8/10 -- i found the concept of this anime to be similar to death parade's "after death" idea. in this anime, people come to the tasokare hotel when they are stuck between life & death. they have no memories when they get there, but they will gradually regain their memories at the hotel. i really love this concept & i think it's pretty uncommon. i also loved the mysteries throughout the anime. there were quite a few "subplots" that were mysteries about other characters in which the main character, neko, was trying to solve. i do think some parts of the plot seemed a bit rushed, like some parts could have been extended upon, but i guess it makes sense as this anime is only 12 episodes. in particular, the ending felt like the worst part of the anime to me. it wasn't exactly bad, but it was clearly rushed compared to the rest of the anime. i was really surprised when the anime started getting into the main plot, but i enjoyed it a lot. we spend a few episodes getting into other characters' lives, but the main story of neko's life was the most intriguing to me.
world/setting: 10/10 -- the setting is just the hotel. it's not extravagant or incredible, but i think it's perfect the way it is. i love the setting of a hotel between life & death. that's really all there is to it!
purpose: 9/10 -- there is a clear goal for the characters of the hotel: to regain their memories & return either to the real world or the afterlife. however, there are other goals for some characters, as well. for instance, neko is a very curious individual who loves to solve the mysteries of the other guests' of the hotel. while attempting to regain her own memories, she helps others regain theirs. for a few episodes, i did forget that she needed to regain her own memories because there was a big focus on other characters, but i did think the goals & purpose of the anime were clear.
characters: 8/10 -- i think the characters were very well written, my only issue is that i wish some characters had more time to develop properly. i loved the backstories of the main characters & how everything came together, but i do think it would have been better to give more time to develop them. for example, there is one character who was pretty much only important for one episode, but they felt like they should have had more time because they seemed important.
storytelling: 10/10 -- i watched this anime having only read the synopsis. i only learned that it was a game after trying to see if there was a manga for it. i felt that this anime was really good for a game adaptation, i genuinely didn't feel like it was a game while i was watching it. it just felt like an anime so i really liked the storytelling. i also like that while the anime is in the perspective of neko, there is so much neko doesn't know throughout the story that it really felt like a great mystery. we, as the viewers, go along with neko on her quest to solve these mysteries & discover the truth. it was very enjoyable to me.
enjoyment: 9/10 -- i mostly enjoyed the anime from beginning to end besides the parts the felt rushed in the last few episodes of the anime. some parts were actually a bit confusing to me, but other than that, i really liked watching this anime.
animation/visuals: 7/10 -- the animation wasn't great, but it also wasn't bad. i think it was more of a low-budget anime, but it didn't really need stunning visuals to be a good anime. i think it was fine the way it was.
pace: 5/10 -- as much as i loved the plot & enjoyed the anime, i have to say the pacing was not the best. we spend quite a few episodes on the mysteries of other guests' at the hotel so we don't have much time to get into the ending of the anime, which i felt was the most important part. i'm not sure if it's because this anime is originally a game, but i think the pacing could have been so much better.
soundtrack: 7/10 -- i think the soundtrack, opening, & ending music were all fine. nothing really stood out to me, but nothing was bad.
gut feeling: 8/10 -- although the pacing wasn't great, it was really enjoyable to me & i loved the concept of the entire anime. i understand it may not be enjoyable to other people if they're not interested in this concept, but i really liked it & i liked the mysteries throughout the show.
