55/100A solid hentai that, if the sex scenes were removed, would still have enough charm to be tolerable. Based Mafuyu-tan.Continue on AniListKanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo is probably my favorite hentai series and one of the few that’s ever stood out to me. That said, it’s still hentai. While target demographic and purpose is definitely an important factor in judging a show, that doesn’t excuse its flaws. How well does it hold up when held to an objective standard?
The setup for Kano3 is simple and flimsy, but believable. Haruomi Shiki, a high school student, begins living with the three Orifushi sisters, his childhood friends. Why? The anime doesn’t elaborate beyond saying it’s “for various reasons.” The visual novel appears to open with a volcanic explosion, so perhaps his home was destroyed. I’m not entirely certain, as I am not fluent in moonspeak and we’re not reviewing the visual novel anyway. The Orifushi parents are “long gone” (presumably dead), so there’s no family to get in the way. It’s easy to cast a critical eye on all this and say “this is all just a plot device to set up the porn,” but it’s also hard to condemn for this. After all, at least one of the sisters is old enough to be a legal guardian, they have a source of income, and while “various reasons” isn’t exactly an enlightening excuse as to why Haroumi is moving in with three young women he hasn’t seen in a while, it’s not exactly an excuse you can poke holes in either. Besides, if you’re watching this, you’re probably not looking for a detailed backstory. You don’t need to know how the parents died or how the sisters managed afterwards, and you actually probably don’t want to.
What excuse there is for a plot is about ice cream. Haruomi helps the sisters reinvigorate their struggling ice cream shop as a major chain makes plans to move in nearby. Again, you probably don’t care much about the plot if you’re watching this. Most of the show is character-driven slice-of-life anyway, so a sparse plot is all that’s needed. The slice-of-life segments are actually fairly decent. They often feature good comedic timing, especially in how they execute the art shifts into the chibi style.
The characters are probably the strongest point of Kano3, which is good because they’re what drive it. Jin Happoubi, original artist and character designer, excels at crafting beautiful and engaging characters.
Akina Orifushi, middle sister, is the archetypal pink-haired “main girl.” She’s kind, sweet, and cheerful, but also a bit naïve and easily flustered. Natsumi Orifushi, the oldest sister, is your large-breasted onee-chan. She’s cheerful and easygoing, a bit spacey, and perhaps a bit more sexually aggressive than the other characters. The youngest sister, Mafuyu Orifushi, is objectively the best girl. She’s a stoic and mischievous bookworm who’s very sexually curious and likes playing at dominating despite her inexperience. In addition to the three sisters, there’s the Midori Byakudan, the uptight president of Haruomi and Akina’s class, and her shy best friend, Suzuran Himenohara.
The characters all have easily identifiable personalities and are the sorts of characters I think could carry an anime even if it weren’t for the porn. Suzu is the only real miss for me, and I found Mafuyu lovable enough that I consider her mai waifu. Seriously. I own a dakimakura.
From a technical standpoint, the series is, admittedly, not particularly impressive. The animation is cheap, the music is simple and not particularly consistent, and overall everything falls short of what you’d expect of even a lower-budget TV anime series. However, it is much better than a lot of the hentai I’ve seen. While it does contain looped animation, it’s used much more sparingly than in some other hentai, and some of it is hidden or kept interesting through camera pans or altering the speed. There are some minor continuity errors regarding what characters are wearing during sex scenes, but not nearly as bad as some examples I’ve seen and you really have to be watching that to notice them. The most egregious production failing is by far when a 4 ½ minute sex scene at the end of episode 2 is lazily repeated wholesale at the beginning of episode 3. This appears not to have been the original plan, since both the third part of the “Complete Edition” (a release featuring all 3 episodes strung together into one) and the leaked uncensored version of episode 3 feature a different opening scene, as well as including a brief fellatio scene with Midori that is almost entirely cut in the original release. In fact, much of the third episode feels lackluster or low-budget, as if time, money, or both just weren’t there.
Much of the soundtrack is generic or doesn’t quite fit, but the rest of the sound design is actually fairly strong. The sound effects used in the comedic moments are able to add to the jokes, and quiet moments will often include buzzing cicadas. At the very least, there’s at least some sense of atmosphere and the world doesn’t feel dead and empty.
And now we come to the sex scenes.
It should be noted that Kano3, while not entirely vanilla, feels like it is. There’s no futa, no rape, no scat, etc. There are some scenes that push the line a bit, but they’re usually softened. While there’s a brief scene of peeing, it’s brief, random, and not actually part of a sex scene. One scene contains a threesome. While the Orifushi sisters do not all attempt to have sex with Haruomi at the same time, they do show up together in a state of undress to take their turn with him, so there’s a moment that borders on incest. And Mafuyu does engage in some light domination with Haruomi, at one point tying his hands, but it’s offset a bit by the fact that she’s presented largely as curious and inexperienced. If you’re looking for monogamy, though, this one’s probably not for you.
The characters’ motivations for the sex don’t feel too forced or random. It’s not much more than an explanation to allow the plot to move from sex scene to sex scene with some sense of fluidity, but at least there’s at least some chemistry to most of the relationships. The Orifushi sisters all have a prior relationship with him, so it’s understandable that they would reconnect on a new level. Midori’s primary attraction seems to be to Suzu, so their initial sex scene is more just her trying to pull Haruomi away from her friend. Suzu, again, is the one that falls a bit more flat. She just seems to be constantly horny just because that’s her nature.
The quality of the scenes does vary some, though much of that is going to depend on tastes and fetishes. Episode 3 does seem to be notably lackluster in terms of scenes, and like I mentioned, the animation in that episode seems to take a hit as well, but that's the only one with an uncensored leak. Personally, I found Mafuyu's first two scenes and the threesome with Midori and Suzu to be the most enjoyable. Maybe you'll prefer other scenes. Maybe you're into more hardcore stuff and none of these will appeal to you. I don't know what you like to whack it to, and I don't really care to.
Overall, it’s a light-hearted hentai with fun characters that will entertain you enough to hold your attention through more than just the sex scenes, which is all you can really ask of hentai. Without the sex scenes, it’s not necessarily a particularly engaging series, but there’s enough of value there that you wouldn’t necessarily feel like you were wasting your time. As a hentai, it’s head and shoulders above a lot of stuff out there, and doesn’t contain much to turn viewers off as well. It's one that I've personally found myself returning to frequently. Maybe you'll feel the same way.

100/100A testament to how good hentai can beContinue on AniListTo say Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo has been the greatest hentai I have watched this year would be an understatement as it just shows how low the hentai industry has declined over the years, a glaring indictment of the current state of hentai as compared to its former glory. This hentai is absolutely brimming with substance, from the intriguing plot line to the cinematography of critical points in the story and the characters with their distinct and unique identities, it really makes me nostalgic for that bygone era when hentai was expected to be good whereas nowadays the attitude seems cynical and sour. There aren’t enough words to summarize why this hentai is just so damn good so let’s just get into each section, shall we?
Story : 10 What starts out as a typical “my childhood friends who are all sisters and their parents have died so I’ve come to live with them” shtick quickly evolves into a journey of rediscovering bonds long forgotten. Our MC hasn’t seen these girls in a long time and while we have seen this “oh my god she’s hot let me fuck her” over and over again, this hentai knows how to take its time and slowly build up to the actual explicit scenes with a few caveat (i.e. the train scene) but its a hentai so we’ll let those slide because when you look at the pacing as a whole, it is much slower and calculated rather than just jumping into it like most hentai nowadays does it. It is just generally refreshing to have a more realistic experience with the lucky lecher slider still pushed pretty far but not to the absolute extreme. We slowly build up this harem and through the non-explicit scenes we see how each girl reveals their feelings to him and while we see their tropey side on display, in these moments of intimacy they reveal a side of themselves to MC-kun that just adds a tangible depth enhancing the overall experience.
What really sets this hentai apart in terms of storytelling is the way the story is divided out into the three episodes. The first episode introduces us into the world, establishes relationships and eases MC-kun into his new life much like we are being eased into the hentai, this is followed up by a more casual episode where we get more character interaction while a secondary plot line introduces the main conflict of the show and the third episode addresses and resolves the conflict while solidifying the main character relationships. This approach allows the viewer to enjoy the story at a leisurely pace and has a lot of creative visual gags and jokes which kept me engaged. Furthermore, they added a lot of little details throughout the show hinting towards the main conflict and those details you pick up on make a lot of sense once the resolution is revealed which adds extra rewatchability and satisfaction when finishing the show.
Art and Animation : 9 The art and animation of this hentai absolutely blew me away and I feel like I say this every time but truly with these older hentai, while they may have a certain style that is subjective, objectively you cannot deny that you can feel a lot more love and passion put into these frames than modern hentai. Add on the many visual gags, with chibi versions of the characters as well as that Alien reference, you can tell the production team definitely had fun with this show because there was no reason to add that much detail but they still did it anyway. The camera angles were also a big differentiating factor as the camera is not static for long, constantly changing to different angles while reusing as few animations as possible so it never felt like animation cycling. Visually it was very dynamic and each character had different traits that played into their personalities reflected in their movement and helped give each and every character their unique presence.
Characters : 9 While arguably, these characters didn’t go through much development, you don’t always have to have development especially in a SoL comfort show type of hentai. As long as these characters interacted well with each other and were all generally likeable, it thrived on the relationships being rebuilt and strengthened through experiences. As a viewer, I was moderately invested and the feel-good ending helped solidify this comfort-type experience the show was trying to provide. Out of all the girls, it felt like Mafuyu’s trope of sadistic loli was played out the best but each girl still shined in their own way. No single trope was overplayed as a lot of the casual interactions were cut with jokes in between to keep things fresh and more serious interactions were played up to their best possible form which made the typical “hentai protag just fucks all the girls” a lot more believable because they all loved him equally and it was less of choosing a single girl because he had been through so much and shared so much with all of them.
Best Boy Honnouji I’d like to just leave this section to appreciate the glue that kept the comedy of this show together. My boy Honnouji was the poor comic relief in a hentai and got absolutely nothing for it so let’s pour one out for the realest one.
Enjoyment : 10 This hentai was a good trip back when I first got into hentai. The story didn’t feel cheap or rushed, there was deliberate care and thought put into this show in every single aspect. It didn’t need the crutch of explicit scenes to carry it because people would still watch it regardless in my opinion. It was just so much fun, with not a single bad character, with not a single moment of dead weight, with just the right amount of comedy and a plot that wasn’t mind blowing but kept me intrigued in more than just the fucking to be had. Such a solid and well-rounded experience you’d be pressed to find anywhere else
Notes on scoring :
- Score below 50% is a fail
- Going from 50%, the score of the section’s “badness” exponentially increases so 25% isn’t just half as bad as 50%
Scoring interpretation
- 60% is “barely good enough”
- 70% is “average”
- 80% is “definitely above average”
- 90% is “damn that’s legitimately good”
- 100% is “perfect”
