Masato Ashiomi es un autor que tengo en especial consideración por su esfuerzo en construir narrativas, que si bien no son necesariamente volcadas a únicamente su historia, son lo suficientemente complejas para brindar un trasfondo interesante al motivo principal y universal del hentai. De hecho, la presente reseña tampoco la considero su obra más compleja o interesante, a comparación Crime Girls y Loveless Labyrinth son más intrincadas, sin embargo, me he decantado por D-Medal porque fue la primera obra que leí del autor y me dejó la suficiente impresión como para leer sus otras obras.

¡Y es que tiene una lección! Hay una moraleja en la historia a través del desarrollo del protagonista, y es la fidelidad. Si, irónico e inesperado sabiendo que estamos ante un contexto “harem”, excepto que no lo es… plenamente. Explicando un poco, dados los sucesos de la trama, aún si el protagonista está con diferentes chicas es explícito que ninguna desarrolla sentimientos por él, únicamente es una diversión pasajera permitida por los artífices de la historia que construyen la base de la segunda parte.

Centrándonos en esa primera sección, hay variedad de situaciones y chicas presentadas, utilizando todos los arquetipos escolares al alcance pasando por compañeras y maestras, un conjunto robusto que incluye animadoras, tríos, enfermera, maestra extranjera, idol, deportista, entre otras. Cada una con un diseño característico y acorde a ese modelo, Masato tiene preferencia por los diseños acurvados, de grandes pechos y prominentes caderas, y se nota a todo momento en su elección de como diseñar a cada chica, pero hay una interesante excepción y es en la heroína, con un cuerpo más “realista”.

La variedad de situaciones y diseños consolidan su primer segmento. A cada capítulo tenemos el encuentro sexual de turno, con la admirable habilidad de Masato para posicionar donde mejor exhibe las cualidades, los paneles son muy dinámicos en su tamaño y organización, permite que en cada página se exhiba a prominencia lo más atractivo del instante. Ni siquiera habiendo más de una pareja pierde ese sentido de la disposición en donde debería ir cada cuál. Junto a las expresiones suficientemente detalladas para encajar en la escena, es un completo disfrute.

Y entonces llega su giro, del cuál no quiero profundizar para instar su lectura, eso sí, puedo afirmar que continúan sus excelentes características de dibujante, sea en diseño, posicionamiento o detalle, incluyendo mi secuencia y panel favoritos sexuales de toda la obra, hasta tiene un momento de bonita genuidad relacionado a su lección principal de fidelidad. Sólo por ese diálogo cursi y sincero, se ratifica mi apreciación general por la misma.

Puede que aún habiendo esa variedad que destacó en los primeros capítulos, me hubiese gustado todavía un poco más, por supuesto, igual debía corresponder con una mayor duración de su segunda parte. De todas maneras lo existente es ideal para esa lección a la que se encamina, nuevamente, inesperado ver a la fidelidad exhibida en un contexto de harem, y como punto extra, puede encontrarse sin casi censura, para todavía mayor disfrute.

Masato Ashiomi is an author that I hold in special regard for his effort in constructing narratives, which while not necessarily focused on his story alone, are complex enough to provide an interesting background to the main and universal motif of hentai. In fact, I don't consider this review his most complex or interesting work either, Crime Girls and Loveless Labyrinth are more intricate by comparison, however, I've chosen D-Medal because it was the first work I read by the author and it left enough of an impression on me to read his other works.

And there's a lesson in it! There is a moral to the story through the development of the protagonist, and it is fidelity. Yes, ironic and unexpected knowing that we are facing a “harem” context, except that it is not... fully. Explaining a bit, given the events of the plot, even if the protagonist is with different girls it is explicit that none of them develop feelings for him, it is only a passing amusement allowed by the creators of the story that build the basis of the second part.

Focusing on this first section, there is a variety of situations and girls presented, using all the school archetypes available, including classmates and teachers, a robust set that includes cheerleaders, threesomes, nurse, foreign teacher, idol, sportswoman, among others. Each one with a characteristic design and according to that model, Masato has a preference for curvy designs, big breasts and prominent hips, and it shows at all times in his choice of how to design each girl, but there is an interesting exception and it is in the heroine, with a more “realistic” body.

The variety of situations and designs consolidate his first segment. At each chapter we have the sexual encounter of the day, with Masato's admirable ability to position where best exhibits the qualities, the panels are very dynamic in their size and organization, allowing each page to prominently display the most attractive of the moment. Even when there is more than one couple, it doesn't lose that sense of where each should go. Together with the expressions detailed enough to fit the scene, it is a complete joy.

And then comes his twist, of which I don't want to go into depth to urge its reading, but I can affirm that his excellent drawing characteristics continue, whether in design, positioning or detail, including my favorite sexual sequence and panel of the whole work, he even has a moment of beautiful genuineness related to his main lesson of fidelity. For that cheesy, heartfelt dialogue alone, my overall appreciation for it is ratified.

Maybe even having that variety that stood out in the first chapters, I would have liked still a little more, of course, in the same way it should have corresponded with a longer duration of its second part. Anyway the existing is ideal for that lesson to which it is heading, again, unexpected to see fidelity exhibited in a harem context, and as an extra point, it can be found almost uncensored, for even greater enjoyment.
