DESCRIPTION
A group of very different people wake up together in the sealed environment of an abandoned school building. They include the college students Yumi and Reiji, a cabaret girl named Akane, an occult-obsessed salaryman named Yukitoshi, a punk factory worker named Toshio, an unemployed pedophile named Taichi, and a nine-year-old girl named Michika. The building in which they find themselves has running water, no food, and a timer set for seven days. When they find a cleaver and a hot pot in an upstairs classroom, they begin to guess the intention behind their imprisonment; they're meant to kill and eat one another to survive. In principle, they should be able to survive just by waiting out the seven days in hunger, but nothing is ever that simple.

62/100This review is not to convince you to read the manga but to tell you how I felt and who it is for.Continue on AniListDokumushi: An Occult of Poisonous Humans Dokumushi is a shitty story that starts with occult and slowly shifts towards revenge. It is based on beliefs of finding the poisonous insect to kill someone by collecting most venomous insects and put them together in a closed environment. In the Dokumushi manga, these insects are replaced by humans and these 7 people are trapped for 7 days inside a building. Does this sound interesting? Is this worth reading? Are the characters backstory good enough? Will this review answer the questions? Yes.

The Story, the Plot, the Characters
Frankly, none of the above is good. Its mediocre at best.
The story is wholly character driven and has a shitty (because the characters are shitty) force pushing it. Exactly because its shitty enough to hook viewers, Dokumushi is a generic B-grade manga. Occult based stories like this are good only when it has a bad story line.
The plot is okay-ish, suits the manga. I would say mangaka did a good enough work to create a balance between the plot and story so that the characters are more chiseled out than be forgotten.
The characters are based on seven sins and are amateurishly portrayed. Their backstory isnt very good but good enough to solidify themselves into the story. It isnt very special but you can clearly see the chunnibyou-ish and dark themes in them. -
Based Takes
I hate the how the main character and the lolicon. The only likable character according to me was the occult guy who was very calm. Although, he did a lot "bad and unethical" things, he had some sort of charm. Even the cabaret girl fell in love with him (I totally believe they fell in love with each other). -
Personal Thoughts
I liked it. Its not bad, but its not good either. Its like ordering a new dish from your favorite restaurant once but you dont feel anything noteworthy about it. Its not tasteless or of very inferior quality, its mediocre. Its not mediocre in the negative sense but you cant make sense if you wanna recommend it to someone or not or if you even want to eat it again.
I thrive on shitty mangas, so I liked it. What I like the most is how raw it feels in terms of storytelling. This feels more like a newspaper article re-imagined as a manga. If you like shitty gore mangas, this is your cup of tea.
Will I read its sequel? Yes
Will I watch the live adaptation? Yes
Was this review written to convince you to read it? Yes (I lied)
The world needs these kind of mediocre shitty gore manga for people like me who are bored with good stuff and for new chunnibyous who have just entered the "dark side" of manga. And also, to be able to appreciate good stuff, Dokumushi is the necessary evil.
In one line, Dokumushi is a the kind of manga I would read in airport before my flight leaves if reading gore in public was normalized.-
