Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback Anime Film Opens at #1, 2025 Doraemon Film Drops to #2

The film sold 697,355 tickets on Friday to earn 1,058,422,300 yen (about US$7.43 million); 835,908 tickets on Saturday to earn 1,246,314,200 yen (about US$8.75 million); and 781,427 tickets on Sunday to earn 1,133,870,200 yen (about US$7.96 million). Comparatively, Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the previous film in the franchise, earned 960 million yen (about US$6.26 million at the time) on its opening day last April. The film ranked at #1 in its opening weekend, selling 2,274,333 tickets and earning 3,352,494,500 yen (about US$21.7 million) in its first three days.Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback opened in Japan on April 18, and has screenings in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema in addition to regular screenings. The film opened in 522 theaters in Japan, a new record for the franchise. Yamato — an inspector in Nagano with an injured left eye — and Kogoro — a major character whose last major role in a film was back in the ninth movie Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths in 2005 — both appear in the film. Taka'aki and Yui, who are also from Nagano, also appear in the film.Katsuya Shigehara (unit director of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine) directed the film. It sold 571,000 tickets for 702,817,200 yen (about US$4.78 million) in its first three days.The story follows Doraemon, Nobita, and friends as they enter a painting into a medieval European world. In the painting, they meet Claire and Milo, children from the country of Artoria. They also encounter a small demon with wings named Chai. Together, they face a powerful enemy for a legendary jewel. Yukiyo Teramoto (Doraemon series and movies) directed the film. Satoshi Itō (Doraemon series) wrote the script. The film commemorates the 45th anniversary of Doraemon movies. Aimyon performed the film's theme song "Sketch," as well as the film's insert song "Kimi no Yume o Kikinagara, Boku wa Waraeru Idea o!" The story of the film, including the winner of the Third Division Rap Battle onscreen, can be different at each screening. The storyline will change depending on the realtime polling of the audience members via their smartphones. The interactive film has 48 story routes, 16 new songs, and seven possible endings. The Division All Stars perform the film's opening theme song "Hypnosis Mic -Division Battle Anthem-+."Takanori Tsujimoto (Resident Evil: Vendetta) directed the film at Polygon Pictures, and Yūichirō Momose — a developer of the franchise's story setting, characters, and game events — wrote the script.
