Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Game Unveils Multi-Platform Release, 1st Global Tournament

The staff for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., a new version of its Virtua Fighter 5 3D fighting game, announced during the "VF Direct 2025 SPRING" livestream on Sunday that it is adding new platforms for the game, as well as a global tournament. The company also teased a new project featuring Wolf Hawkfield. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will get a multi-platform release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, in addition to the previously released Steam version. The company will add cross-play functionality across platform and teased further new content. The company also announced a global tournament, the Virtua Fighter Open Championship.. The tournament will have a grand prize of US$100,000 and be held in North America, Europe, Asia, and Japan. It is the first official global tournament for the series. Online and offline qualifiers will be held in the participating regions. The series will add new soundtracks available on Apple Music, Spotify, and other platforms.Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. launched on PC via Steam on January 28.Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, the SEGA development studio that develops the Like a Dragon/Yakuza games, is handling the new version. The game's new graphics feature new character models, enhancements to the levels, and cinematic improvements. The game runs up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.Sega released the first installment in its long-running Virtua Fighter series in arcades in 1993. The series is notable for its three-button punch/kick/block control system. Sega released five main installments in the series. The developer released the latest main installment, Virtua Fighter 5, in arcades in 2006. Sega released the latest Virtua Fighter 5 version, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, in 2010, and on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.The game franchise received a television anime adaptation in 1995.
