BL Webtoon Painter of the Night Inspires Short-Form Live-Action Series

Korean broadcasting system JTBC announced on Thursday the webtoon Painter of the Night is set to be adapted into a short-form live-action series. Multiple entertainment industry sources on May 22 said casting auditions and pre-production are currently underway, with filming scheduled to begin in June.Based on the webtoon drawn by Byeonduk, the live-action adaptation will follow the story of aristocrat Seung-ho Yoon and the artist Na-kyum Baek, who creates erotic paintings. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, the narrative unfolds as Yoon becomes captivated by Na-kyum's work and is drawn into his world. The drama will be produced in short-form format, with each episode running approximately two minutes. The release platform and distribution format are still under discussion.The webtoon, originally serialized on Lezhin Comics since 2019, remains one of the platform's top-ranking BL titles, holding the No.1 spot for five consecutive years.
